Khulumbai! I am Ranjit Basumatary, a social worker at heart, a leader by responsibility, and a revolutionary by circumstance. Currently, I serve as an Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government, representing the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). With the portfolio of Forest, Land Revenue, and Minority Affairs under my care, I am committed to fostering sustainable development, protecting our natural resources, and empowering every community residing in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), irrespective of caste, creed, or background.
My journey is a story of transformation, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to my people. I began my professional life as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Bengtol College, where I taught students about the lessons of the past. However, history wasn’t just a subject for me—it was a responsibility. The struggles and aspirations of my people called me to leave the classroom and join the fight for justice. I became a revolutionary fighter with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), taking on the role of General Secretary of the NDFB(S) faction. For years, I worked relentlessly for the rights and recognition of the Bodo people. This journey of struggle and negotiation culminated in the signing of the historic Bodo Accord (BTR Accord) on 27th January 2020, a moment of hope and renewal for our land.
With the disbanding of the NDFB on 30th January 2020, I chose peace over violence, firmly believing that the real revolution lies in rebuilding communities, not in destruction. Joining the UPPL marked a new chapter in my life. As a leader, I am committed to serving all communities across BTR—Bodos, Assamese, Adivasis, Bengali, Muslims, and others—ensuring every voice is heard and every need is addressed.
My mission is to build a Bodoland where inclusivity and unity become the foundation for progress and prosperity. Though I occasionally write poems, short stories, and articles to capture the beauty and struggles of life, I see myself first and foremost as a social worker dedicated to my people. This website is a reflection of my journey, my thoughts, and my unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for everyone in BTR. Let us walk this path together, hand in hand, towards a united and prosperous Bodoland for all.
